Italian officials today predicted it could take as long as 10 months to completely remove the wreckage of the stranded cruise ship, the Costa Concordia, from the waters near Giglio. Operations to siphon the more than 500,000 gallons of fuel from the damaged vessel have again been halted due to poor weather, leaving locals concerned about the potential for serious environmental damage. This disaster has so far claimed the lives of 17 innocent people. Divers plan on resuming the search for the 16 still missing as soon as weather conditions permit.
