The Coast Guard is currently investigating an allision between a barge and a tug that took place last night not far from the Cape Cod Canal. According to watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England, at approximately 11:30 p.m. the crew of the Doris Morian, a 112-foot tug boat based out of Wilmington, DE, called in to announce a power outage. At the time of the outage, the Doris Morian was towing a 410-foot barge the Alexander. The loss of power caused the two vessels to allide.
Prior to the allision, the crew of the Doris Morian had managed to successfully tow the Alexander from the Canal into Buzzards Bay. The vessels then anchored two miles east of West Island.
