In a recent federal court filing, BP demanded that contractor Halliburton pay for all of the costs incurred as a result of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and subsequent oil spill. BP last estimated the tab at approximately $42 billion.
BP hired Halliburton to cement the Macondo well that ultimately failed on April 20, 2010, killing 11 offshore workers, injuring dozens more and sending millions of barrels of oil directly into the Gulf of Mexico.
